Helicobacter pylori
is a spiral-shaped bacterium commonly found in the stomach. The bacteria's shape and the way they move allow them to penetrate the stomach's protective mucous lining, where they produce substances that weaken the lining and make the stomach more susceptible to damage from gastric acids.
The bacteria can also attach to cells of the stomach, causing stomach inflammation (gastritis), and can stimulate the production of excess stomach acid. Over time, infection with the bacteria can also increase the risk of stomach cancer.

 Although it is not known how H. pylori infection is spread, scientists believe it may be contracted through food and water.

Do a simple acid test at home
 This test is an economical way for you to ascertain if you have too much or too little acid in your stomach. Do this test first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything else.

 Mix a quarter teaspoon of fresh Bicarbonate of Soda into a small glass of warm water. Swallow the contents of the glass and relax for a few minutes (Note that this test is effective only if done on an empty stomach first thing in the morning).

Home Test results

 If you belch dramatically and within one minute of swallowing this mixture, it is likely you have too much acid. If it takes two to three minutes to belch, your levels of acid are probably normal. If it takes longer than five or six minutes to belch, it is very likely that you have lower than normal levels of stomach acid.

Baking soda treats the condition by adding sufficient amounts of bicarbonate of soda in the stomach acids which protect the stomach lining from getting damaged. Take half a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate and add it to a cup of water. Mix well and take it in the morning and evening if the infection is really bad. Intake of baking soda will prevent the lack of adequate bicarbonate of soda in the stomach, caused due to reduced stomach acids and the Ph can be neutralised and the symptoms of Helicobacter pylori reduced considerably. Baking soda is an antacid and reduces the acidity in the stomach preventing acid reflux and GERD which too are associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. Baking soda can also be taken after your food to prevent fermentation of food in your stomach which causes the spread of Helicobacter pylori. 


  • Raspberries
  • have one of the highest concentrations of ellagic acid, a powerful disease-fighting substance. This phytochemical can be found in blueberries, strawberries and certain nuts and has been shown to be antiviral, anti carcinogenic, anti mutagen and antibacterial. Ellagic acid destroys the offending stomach bacteria. This powerful phytochemical is preserved no matter how raspberries are cooked or frozen and is an effective natural combatant of the bacteria.



  • A Japanese study in April of 2009 found that broccoli is an effective natural remedy of the H. pylori bacteria. This study has since been further proven. In the trial, it was found that sulforphane in broccoli sprouts reduced the colonies of H. pylori bacteria in test subjects. Sulforphanes, similar to ellagic acid, have antimicrobial, anticancer and anti diabetic properties. Because symptoms returned when broccoli supplementation ceased, it can be assumed that continued addition of the antimicrobial sulforphanes to the diet occur.

  • A 1998 Israeli study found that extracts of cinnamon helped the stomach in its fight against H. Pylori. In the study, cinnamon extracts inhibited urease enzymes from catalyzing reactions in H. Pylori cells. This keeps the H. Pylori from performing all of their necessary functions. The cinnamon was found to work as well as a common antibiotic. There are several other substances that have been touted for their abilities to counteract H. Pylori, for example, herbs like garlic and ginger, oils such as coconut oil and oregano oil and apple cider vinegar. However, there is little proof in a scientific trial. Consult your doctor before using any of these unverified natural methods.

Manuka Honey

The pH of honey is commonly between 3.2 and 4.5. This relatively acidic pH level prevents the growth of many bacteria. The non peroxide antibiotic activity is due to methylglyoxal (MGO) and an unidentified synergistic component. Most honeys contain very low levels of MGO, but manuka honey contains very high levels. The presence of the synergist in manuka honey more than doubles MGO antibacterial activity. Antioxidants in honey have even been associated with reducing the damage done to the colon in colitis.

Onions and Garlic

Garlic cloves are used as a remedy for infections(especially chest problems), digestive disorders, and fungal infections such as Candida albicans. Garlic can be used as a disinfectant because of its bacteriostatic and bacteriocidal properties. Prvo pravilo ishrane kod hroničnog gastritisa je raznovrsna ishrana. To daje želucu veće mogućnosti da iz raznih sastojaka hrane uzme ono što je organizmu potrebno.
Drugo osnovno pravilo su česti i mali obroci. Preporučuje se čak da se hrana podeli u šest do sedam obroka. Dobro bi bilo kad bi obroci bili u isto ili približno isto vreme svakog dana. To izgleda ovako: doručak, užina, ručak 1, ručak 2, užina, večera.
Gastroenterolozi, takođe, savetuju da treba jesti lagano i duže žvakati hranu. Želudac dobija usitnjenu hranu i nema velikog utroška mišićne snage želuca na mešanje i sitnjenje hrane.
Hranu je najbolje kuvati ili dinstati na malo ulja. Dobro je i da bude sitno iseckana, najbolje u obliku pirea. Ono što u svakom slučaju treba da se izbegava je presno povrće koje zbog čvrstine mehanički draži sluznicu želuca.

Izuzetak su paradajz (bez kožice), zelena salata i svež kupus.
Kod gastritisa se često preporučuje pijenje mleka zbog njegovog neutrališućeg dejstva. Ni tu ne treba preterivati jer će velike količine mleka pokrenuti proces varenja i sekreciju želudačne kiseline.
Izbor namirnica

Žitarice -
Poželjno je: tost, testenine, griz, pirinač. Ne preporučuje se: svež hleb bilo koje vrste, lisnata testa i testa koja sadrže kvasac.

Mleko i mlečni proizvodi - Dozvoljeni su svi mlečni proizvodi od obranog mleka i sa malim procentom mlečne masti. Izbegavati punomasne sireve, pavlaku.

Meso - Dozvoljena su sva nemasna mesa - piletina, teletina, junetina, najbolje kuvana, od prerađevina samo ćureća ili pileća prsa. Nisu dozvoljeni: svinjetina, meso divljači, sva dimljena ili usoljena mesa, pohovana, pržena.

Jaja - Treba izbegavati tvrdo kuvana i pržena jaja.

Riba - Dozvoljene su sve nemasne bele ribe, a treba izbegavati rakove, školjke, lignje i druge plodove mora.

Povrće - Dozvoljeno: kuvano, na pari ili dinstano - krompir, spanać, blitva, cvekla, boranija, tikvice, šargarepa, karfiol, paradajz (bez kožice), zelena salata, svež kupus.

Nije dozvoljeno: sve ostalo sveže povrće, krastavci, rotkvice, luk, paprika, pečurke (trebalo bi ih izbegavati u bilo kom obliku), pržen krompir, i sve konzervirano povrće.

Voće - Dozvoljeno: jabuke (bez kore, i najbolje rendane), breskve, kajsije, banane, sveže ceđeni voćni sokovi, naročito se dobro podnose voćni kompoti.
Treba izbegavati: nezrelo voće, orahe, bademe, smokve, trešnje, višnje, sve agrume.
Pića - Poželjno je izbegavati alkohol, gazirano, kafu i sve što sadrži kofein u većim dozama, crni čaj.
Začini -  Izbegavati: biber, mlevenu ljutu papriku, sirće, senf, ren.

Vruće i hladno - Hladna i vruća jela, jako začinjenu i naročito kiselu hranu treba strogo izbegavati. Postoje začini kao što je peršun koji ima jako povoljan učinak na želudac.

So je takođe dozvoljena i poželjna, ali s njom ne treba preterivati.

Treba piti 1,5 litara tečnosti na dan. Najbolji izbor je obična voda, ali mogu i blagi čajevi, ili voda sa nekoliko kapi limuna.
